"For me, Miss Amazing has truly disassociated 'handicapped' and 'unable'. After volunteering, I have gained an awareness of where I am in life. They shine and after volunteering with Miss Amazing, they have helped me find my shine too."
- Hannah Blazek, Miss Amazing Volunteer
FULL DAY VOLUNTEER - Participant Buddy
Volunteer an entire day at Miss Amazing and play an integral role in the event's success. It is our greatest volunteer need as buddies help ensure each participant has an amazing day. As a Miss Amazing buddy, you'll be paired up with a participant and receive a Buddy t-shirt. In being her official Miss Amazing guide and support system, you can form a rewarding relationship that could last for years to come. Ideally buddies are females, age 16 and above. However, we can consider younger ages depending on their level of experience and availability of an adult to volunteer with them. Soon you will be able to download and share the volunteer flyer, if you know anyone that may be interested.
A mandatory buddy orientation meeting will be held (date and time TBD) at the Naperville Yellow Box. The goal is to provide education, review buddy roles, and answer any questions. Check out our buddy training series for some helpful information that will also be discussed at orientation.
HALF DAY VOLUNTEER
If you are able to dedicate your time for part of the event, we will most likely count on you for behind-the-scenes work and activity preparations. As a half-day volunteer, you will have the opportunity to gain a wider view of what Miss Amazing is accomplishing and contribute to the overall experience by helping with necessary tasks. Please note that our biggest need is for buddies (full-day volunteers), and the number of half-day positions is quite limited.
Calling all helpful and supportive gentlemen! The Right-Hand Man program gives boys and men with and without disabilities the opportunity to take center stage as a volunteer. Right-Hand Men accompany and escort the participants on-stage as they present themselves in their evening wear. Check out the Right-Hand Man guide for general information and a link to a video. Information specific to Right-Hand Men of the Illinois event can be found here.
